Two of our EB families have recently returned home after staying at the Bright Family Retreat, a new DEBRA Australia Family Support Program initiative developed to support our community through their journey living with EB.

The Dela Cruz and Morris families, who both have children living with EB, each spent a few days at the retreat. The families not only enjoyed a break from the demands of their daily routines, but also spent some essential quality time with one another.

The families enjoyed gentle walks, exploring nature and visiting the local town – and were delighted to even discover snow along the way!

Mum Hanadi, whose son Ethan lives with EB Simplex, shared how much the trip had a positive impact on the family “The surroundings were absolutely stunning and so refreshing, giving us all a peaceful break from busy life. We really enjoyed our stay, and our family had a wonderful time together. It was extra special being there with our little boys, Ethan and Enrico, and seeing them create beautiful memories together.”

Applications to visit the Bright Family Retreat are still open, so if you would like to find out more or register your interest, please visit our website page below.

To wrap up their trip, Emma Morris, whose daughter Blakely also lives with EB Simplex, shared how much the retreat meant to their family, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to attend “We had the best time!! The kids had a ball and it was so nice to be able to get away and enjoy some sunshine. Thank you to DEBRA Australia and the generous donors who allowed us to stay in their beautiful home. We are forever grateful for these memories you make possible for us and all of the other beautiful EB families.”
