Lauren Weston, EB Nurse Consultant from The Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, has shared her gratitude for attending the annual Paediatric Complex Care Conference in Arlington, VA in the USA at the end of September last year.

Lauren was awarded a travel grant from DEBRA Australia to attend this conference, which focused on the care of children with complex needs and how to better engage carers both at home and in care facilities.

Lauren had the privilege of presenting with RCH Complex Care Occupational Therapist Erin Georgiou. Their session showcased the neonatal clinical pathway they collaboratively developed to guide care for babies born with EB.

Few attendees had previously encountered EB in practice, making their presentation a rare opportunity to raise awareness, share clinical insights, and advocate for improved systems of care for EB.

“To share our experiences, challenges and triumphs with EB in such a forum was a privilege” Lauren said. She extended her gratitude, saying “Thank you to DEBRA Australia and their generous supporters for helping me to attend this conference. Not only for our families, but for the health care professionals working to better the lives of individuals with EB.
