General News

• Debra Vic is pleased to have purchased a new “super soft” queen size bed for Lisa Brains. The bed arrived mid February and we hope Lisa has many restful nights sleep.

• A new family will be arriving in Melbourne in early May all the way from the UK. Craig, Alison and their 3 children are moving to Tullamarine with Craig’s work. Their eldest daughter Hannah is 12 years old and sufferers from RDEB. We are currently in the process of working out Hannah’s needs & supply of dressings. We have big shoes to fill with this family being under the very experienced and dedicated care of GOSH and the lovely Jackie Denyer. We look forward to welcoming them into our Debra family here in Melbourne & Australia.

• Debra Vic now has a page on facebook! Visit us and add us as one of your pages to boost the profile of Debra with your facebook friends! Feel free to comment on the wall and look at the photos, the secretary tries to keep it up to date with all the Debra Vic latest news!

• I am joining Sue McKenna and many others on the Cannonball Ride in May. I am attending as the official ‘camera man’ and hope I can do a good enough job! I am looking forward to being a part of this wonderful experience but am very nervous with the thought of leaving Eliza and all of her medical needs at home. The training of a temporary carer begins now!

Debra Vic AGMDebra Vic AGM

2010 AGM

The Debra Victoria AGM was held on Sunday the 5th December, 2010 at Melinda Oxford’s house. A great day was had by all with the largest amount of Debra members attending in many years. It was a beautiful sunny day & most of the kids enjoyed their day swimming in the pool and playing ‘Just Dance 2’ on the Wii. Shay Zulpo attended our AGM to inform members of the proposed changes to Debra Australia and the effects it could have on Debra Vic. Once the meeting was over everyone enjoyed the Christmas festivities & celebrated the past 6 months together as a committee. We were also fortunate enough to have Santa call by to visit all of the children. The executive committee for 2010/2011 are Melinda Oxford as President, Tony Baric as Treasurer, Stef Burvill as Secretary and we warmly welcome Bianca Saunders as our new Vice President.

Top Left: Bianca must have been on Santa’s “Nice” list.

Thank you to all who have kindly donated to Debra Vic over the past 6 months. We were fortunate enough to be a part of Ferntree Gully Nissan’s annual community raffle which become one of our biggest fundraisers since the Gold Coast Marathon in June last year. I attended the FT Gully Nissan presentation night and Debra Vic was one of 6 who raised the highest amount. We look forward to being a part of this raffle again later in the year.
