Fighting For EB
Following the 60 minutes story in June of this year DebRA Australia was contacted by David Lock who is a fighter in the sport of extreme fighting. He was so moved by the story that he had to do something to help.
David had a title fight coming up on 07th July and he wanted to use that event to get his supporters and sponsors behind his idea to support DebRA Australia. He challenged them all to make a pledge of support to DebRA Australia by sending them some information about why he was doing this, along with some additional information about EB and DebRA from us.
He was also fortunate to have the support of the promotor of the event who agreed to help out as well. Dean Clifford along with one of his friends and myself were given tickets to attend the night to support David and represent DebRA Australia. I would like to thank David, Justin and Julie from XFC for making us so welcome on the evening and for promoting EB on the night with David explaining that he was fighting for EB and the promotors holding an auction with items including a signed Kosta Tszyu glove and signed Queensland State of origin jumper from this years team. This auction on the night raised over $1,300 alone for DebRA. Up to the night Dvaid had received a huge amount of around $6,000 in pledges for DebRA Australia. This had the potential to be more when he won his fight.
Dean and mysellf had a great night. This is the first time I had attended such a night and will be attending again, it was very good night out. Dean even got his photo with a couple of the Gold Coast metermaids who were there on the night selling tickets and helping with the events in the ring.
David's fight was the last of the night. It was for the Super Heavy Weight Kick Boxing Championship. It was for 5 rounds and went the full distance. The judges had to decide the fight on points in the end which was a close split decision. David won the fight which was a tremendous reward for all his training, hard work and effort.
A huge thank you to David who put himself out there and was inspired by people living with EB and congratulations on the title fight win truly well deserved. Also to Justin and Julie from XFC who made us all feel very welcomed on the night and made sure we had good seats, as well as for the support they all gave to EB and DebRA on the night. It was a great opportunity to promote the awareness of EB and the work of DebRA Australia.
